Speed on the Ice—Track and Train Performance for Hockey

The grind. It’s a mindset—discipline, toughness, accountability. It’s a season—club, college, pro, always a long haul. It’s a physical process—to gradually and slowly weaken.

Hockey is fast, blink-and-you-missed-it fast. Set the discipline, model the toughness, teach the accountability—but limit the erosion and train the fast.

Sprint. Jump. Skate. Drive intent and competition in your off-ice training. Don’t grind through reps—time your acceleration work, your flying sprints, your COD drills. Develop explosive athletes. Track countermovement jumps, regularly—are your most dynamic players trending up or trending down? Take timing to the ice, get live data for your goal-to-blue-line drills, increase complexity and challenge with Figure 8 patterns. Compete. Add the puck, add decision making, be creative. Refuse to slowly weaken—get faster, get stronger, consistently. The game is fast—train the game.
